Gardone Riviera is a town and comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy. It is situated on the western shore of Lake Garda.
It is one of the main tourist resorts of Lake Garda, characterized by its typical “Central European”.
The Vittoriale degli italiani is famous in the area, home to Gabriele d’Annunzio, which has now become a foundation open to the public with about 210,000 annual visitors.
Compared to the capital it is in a north-east position at a distance of 40 kilometers. It is located on the Brescia side, then western, of Lake Garda. It is part of the Alto Garda Bresciano Regional Park.
Being the municipality overlooking Lake Garda, it has a fairly mild climate in winter and not excessively hot in summer.
Monuments and places of interest
The Vittoriale degli Italiani is the monumental citadel built on the shores of Lake Garda as the home of the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, who lived there from 1921 to 1938.
It was designed by the architect Giancarlo Maroni and since 1925 it is a national monument.
